So the year 2010 ends the first decade of the millennium, the decade which saw many turns in the
economy. Firstly, the market stumbled to the dot com pull. After almost 5 years of unprecedented
growth of the global economy, driven basically by the rising consumerism in emerging economies of
BRIC countries, we faced another huge financial meltdown, one of the biggest recessions in recent
times. Though we have overcome the worst, much still needs to be done.

This issue of INFINEETI brings to you problems, which countries and governments have been struggling
to manage.

2G Scam - The honorable minister for Telecom Mr.Kapil Sibal has debunked the CAG report citing that
the amount can’t be estimated the way it is has been done by CAG. His argument has been that the
scam has truly helped in reducing tariffs and has induced competition in the telecom industry. Vineet
Bakshi covers the perplexing and intriguing story behind the scam which saw Mr. Raja making his way
out of the UPA government.

In Focus: Mr. Abheek Barua, Chief Economist, HDFC shares his insight on the dollar staging its fight back
in 2011. A debate has always been on, on whether an alternate currency could replace the dollar. With
more and more Euro zone countries being driven into the sovereign crisis, Euro certainly doesn’t stand a
chance presently.

Umesh traces the fundamental relation between the hot bullion Gold and the Dollar. Gold has always
been a favorite investment for most of the portfolio managers and HNIs in times of vulnerable dollar
and weak sentiments in the market. But as Warren Buffet put it “This investment is an unproductive
investment for the economy”.

Campus to Corporate is back with Varun Khanna sharing his experience of being an equity research
analyst and what lies in store for all finance aspirants who look forward to this career.

Cashonova, the Finance club of IIFT, organized the events, Shodh and Consiglaire, which saw a huge
participation across all B-schools. Various Investment Banks were part of the event and the event
involved valuing firms and giving pitches to the acquiring firm.
